Jerome Boateng reveals what he told Jose Mourinho during summer phone call

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has confirmed Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in him in the summer and that he personally spoke to Jose Mourinho in order to reject a move to Old Trafford.

"So, Paul, if you want to go play somewhere else, let's make that work for you because Manchester United will be fine, don't worry about that".

Pogba's relationship with manager Jose Mourinho is said to be on the rocks, with the French midfielder recently telling the press that there are things he can not talk about for fear of being fined.

One man that was heavily linked with Man United in the final days of the transfer window was World Cup victor, Jerome Boateng.

The 30-year-old says that he was tempted by the idea of a new challenge, but could not bring himself to leave a club of Bayern's stature. It was no escape, but rather the thrill of a new challenge. I feel completely contented at Bayern - one of the biggest clubs in the world. He has recalled why his move to United failed and what he told Mourinho on the phone when informing him of his decision.

"I had enquiries from Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United, and I considered them", Boateng told Bild. "I explained to him my reasons for not joining". 'I explained to him that it's hard to leave, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club, ' explained Boateng.

The experienced defender has won 6 Bundesliga titles, 4 domestic cups and the Champions League during his time at the Allianz Arena while he also helped lead Germany to the 2014 World Cup.

One position that he desperately tried to strengthen was the centre-back position.
