France hike gave Djokovic new motivation to reach tennis summit

Djokovic has only ever lost one match from more than 200 when he has led by two sets - to Austria's Jurgen Melzer at the 2010 French Open - but there was no sign of that happening again.

The five highest-rated markets were West Palm Beach (6.0), Washington DC (5.5), Richmond (5.1), NY (4.5) and Norfolk (3.8).

The tennis world is split over whether the 47-year-old should have used greater discretion before penalising Williams because of the actions of her coach - or given her another warning before docking her a game for verbal abuse.

Djokovic also waded into ongoing row involving Serena Williams and umpire Carlos Ramos.

The rejuvenated Novak Djokovic produced a magnificent performance against Juan Martin del Potro to claim his third US Open title and equal Pete Sampras' haul of 14 grand slams. From admitting to feeling like someone playing his "first match" Djokovic is now back to his vintage best and winning on the sport's biggest stages.

Juan Martin del Potro rued not being able to take the chances that fell his way in Sunday's US Open final but was full of admiration for the quality of champion Novak Djokovic's play.

Federer and Nadal have made me the player I am today.

"I got it after nine years, which is incredible to me because the US Open is my favourite tournament and I'm proud of that".

Aaron Rodgers throws absurd TD pass to Geronimo Allison
So why did it all suddenly click after he returned to the game, but was still limited due to his knee injury? Rodgers came jogging out of the tunnel behind the team. "Well, this is what we're paid to do", Rodgers said.

With the win on Sunday, Djokovic is set to move to the third spot behind Nadal and Federer on the ATP charts.

The win at Flushing Meadows enabled Djokovic to complete a Wimbledon-US Open double after lifting his fourth Wimbledon title earlier this year at the All England Club in London. Too (far) ahead of him with the Grand Slams.

Del Potro insisted he is happy to be playing in the era of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal.

Sampras beat Australian Roy Emerson's 33-year record of 13 Grand Slam titles by winning Wimbledon in 2000, extending it by winning the 2002 US Open - the final tournament of his career.

The jump to five-set contests can not be underestimated and there were mini successes along the way - Karen Khachanov's thriller with Nadal among them.

In a nice gesture, Djokovic consoled del Potro moments after he was seen weeping in his chair. Perhaps only Stefanos Tsitsipas can be disappointed, losing to fellow rising star Daniil Medvedev, having arrived on the back of a Masters final in Cincinnati. On Saturday she played like she knew the 36-year-old's game like the back of her hand, absorbing everything the American threw at her, and redirecting them with much more panache. Allied to her endearing, quirky personality, there is no doubt tennis has new star.

Tilden won his first two grand slam titles in 1920 - including his first of seven US Opens. She will enter the top 10 for the first time, ranked seventh in the world.

And yet, after the events that unfolded in Saturday's women's final at Flushing Meadow, no one - not the players, the officials, administrators, the fans or the sport itself - emerged as a victor. "There are certain things you can train yourself to do; other things you just have, and I believe it's a gift, what Naomi has".
