Elon Musk Smokes Weed on Joe Rogan Show

Tesla's Elon Musk provoked another Twitter storm on Friday by briefly smoking marijuana on a live web show with comedian Joe Rogan.

"I have a design for a plane", said Musk (partial transcript via The Verge), adding, "I've thought about this quite a lot, quite a lot". Rogan said. "I mean it's legal, right?" said Musk before taking a drag.

In August he told the New York Times that he worked "120-hour weeks" and took sedatives. Musk has admitted that running an electric auto and energy company like Tesla is exhausting, and in an interview with the New York Times last month, Musk stated that anyone who could do a better job can take over for him anytime.

Musk touched on the difficulties of having the kind of brain that has enabled him to build and run multiple high-tech companies at the same time.

Later in the interview, Rogan, a former UFC commentator, offered Tesla's CEO a smoke. Yet the incident could revive questions about whether Musk is the right person to lead Tesla.

The markets did not take well to the appearance, with shares in Tesla Inc falling on Friday morning. The stock has plunged 31 percent since Musk floated the idea of taking the vehicle maker off the public market, lopping billions of dollars off the company's market value.

As Rogan pulled out a joint and started smoking it, Musk replied, "Is that a joint?"

The company, hurt in the past month by Musk's high-profile U-turn on a deal to take it private, said Chief Accounting Officer Dave Morton had resigned, citing discomfort with the level of public attention and pace of work.

"This caused me to reconsider my future", Morton said.

Prominent short-seller Andrew Left has sued Tesla and Musk, saying in his proposed class-action complaint on Thursday that Musk's issuance of materially false and misleading information related to his abandoned plan harmed both short-sellers and those hoping the stock would rise.
