Ayanna Pressley beat Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass.) in the state's 7th Congressional District in a historic upset. She also would be the first person of color to ever represent the state in Congress. She says Lynch didn't do enough to oppose President Donald Trump.

Capuano is now the fourth House lawmaker to lose re-election in a 2018 midterm primary, following Rep. Robert Pittenger (R-N.C.), Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.).

"Our president is a racist, misogynistic, truly empathy-bankrupt man", Pressley told supporters on Tuesday night.

A piece in Boston.com profiling Pressley's race after Ocasio-Cortez's victory this summer noted the similarities between their two campaigns.

Her background is more like Gillum's than Ocasio-Cortez's: She has a long career in Boston politics.

She was raised by her single mother, Sandra Pressley, on the north side of Chicago while her father, Martin Pressley, battled addiction and spent much of her childhood in prison. Her victory comes just two months after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez similarly defeated a top House leader in a primary for a NY congressional seat. She is poised to become the only black member of Massachusetts' mostly male congressional delegation.

LA Prosecutors Decline Criminal Charges Against Kevin Spacey, Steven Seagal, Anthony Anderson
He was dropped past year from the Netflix television series House of Cards and erased from the film All the Money in the World . Prosecutors are reviewing a second case against Spacey that includes allegations he attacked a man in Malibu in October 2016 .

Pressley, the first black woman to serve on the council, is now on track to represent an area of MA once served by Democratic icons Tip O'Neill and John F. Kennedy.

Ms Pressley argued she would bring new energy and awareness of the needs in the state's only congressional district where a majority of residents are not white.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Democrat, cheered the outcome on Twitter on Tuesday night.

Candidates for lieutenant governor run separately in the primary but in tandem with their party's gubernatorial nominee in the general election.

The contest heated up after the 34-year-old Zakim won the endorsement of activists gathered at the Massachusetts Democratic Party convention, beating the 67-year-old incumbent first elected to the office in 1994. "We believe that people in public life can, and should, debate the issues respectfully and seek common ground whenever possible".
