McCain had made clear he did not want Trump to attend his funeral services, and Trump had to be urged by aides to make a statement honor McCain and reordering the flags at half staff.

McCain is lying in state at the US Capital Rotunda, following his death on 25 August age 81.

And Sen. Patrick Leahy said that he is glad Pence and his wife are able to visit "the most lovely state in the country, & I hope they enjoy their time in VT". "To pay a debt of honor and respect to a man who served our country throughout his life in uniform and in public office, and it is my great honor to be here".

"I can assure you, America will always remember and honor the lifetime of service of United States Senator John McCain", Pence said.

Besides Pence, counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway was also in attendance at Friday's ceremony.

Divers have been sent out into the river's waters, which can range from shallow to 30 feet (9 meters) deep. Sonar images of the sunken boat indicated that neither of the missing people were on board, he said.

It's no secret there might per chance be small love misplaced between the McCains and President Trump.

"We had our disagreements and they were very strong disagreements", the president said.

Later, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., joined McConnell, Ryan and Pence in laying wreathes next to McCain's casket. "It's one more thing when Jesus seek the advice of with you", Joy Behar, an actress and comic, talked about on the order. Even as McCain battled brain cancer, Trump continued to criticize him for voting against a Republican health-care bill. "Generations of Americans will continue to marvel at the man who lies before us".

Moments before the ceremony began, rain poured down as USA service members escorted McCain's flag-draped casket up the Capitol steps, as senators and members of Congress - in addition to McCain's widow, Cindy, his children, and his 106-year-old mother Roberta - awaited his arrival.

Ryan added that, "We have this attractive thing, the chance to do for this man what he did for us, to stand up, to stand up and embrace the cause of his life". He will be buried at the U.S. Naval Academy Sunday.
