Arsenal gave Mesut Ozil a new deal worth £350,000 a week in January, and Ramsey believes that he also deserves a significant pay rise following a 10-year stay at the club.

Ramsey knows that allowing his contract and beocming a free agent would allow him to negotiate higher wages than if a transfer fee were involved, with a figure in the region of £250,000 per week mooted by the aforementioned source.

Under FIFA rules, Ramsey can begin discussing terms with other clubs in January when his contract has less than six months remaining.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has implored Aaron Ramsey to sign a new contract at the club.

The Welshman couldn't move to China or join a Premier League rival immediately because transfer windows have closed.

Kovacic: Chelsea and Sarri Believe in Me
The Real target admitted it would be weird for Chelsea to allow him to go without being to sign a replacement. The former Inter man's qualities were on show following his introduction on Saturday evening.

The 27-year-old, who now earns £110,000-a-week, wants closer to the £300,000-a-week deal that top earner Mesut Ozil takes home.

The Sun claim that Arsenal began negotiations with the Welshman a year ago though as yet no progress has been made.

Depending on how contract negotiations progress over the next few months, Manchester United could steal a second Arsenal player for a knockdown price in consecutive years.

Ramsey has made an inauspicious start to the new season, hauled off against Manchester City in the opening game of the season and then dropped to the bench against Chelsea.
