But that will change later this year, according to a report from Nikkei.

Google has been preparing its suppliers for the launch of a smart speaker equipped with a display screen as it targets Amazon's dominance in the build up to Christmas. The introduction of the smart display platform by Google was in January when they invested in the third parties.

Some well-known examples of smart speakers include: Amazon Echo (Alexa), Sonos (Alexa), Google Home (Google Assistant), Apple HomePod (Siri) and the newly-announced Samsung Galaxy Home (Bixby).

"Many players, including Amazon, are integrating smart speakers into verticals, such as hotels, retail, hospitals, and other business establishments", said Jason Low, senior analyst at Canalys.

In India, both Amazon and Google sell smart speakers, although only Amazon for now has a smart speaker with a screen. In a way, though, Google is again chasing Amazon here, just the way it is chasing Amazon in the regular smart speaker market.
