Jurgen Klopp warns there will be tougher tests ahead than West Ham

Liverpool kick-off their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon, as they welcome West Ham United to Anfield. Liverpool, meanwhile, have not conceded a goal in their last six home games in the league - since West Ham scored against them in February.

"We played as good as possible today and we extended a really good pre-season into the Premier League", Klopp told the BBC. After last season's painful and horrid ending to a fairy tale Champions League run you'd think it would be hard for them to recover from such a heartbreaking end.

"We can not be anything different than the challenger because we have not won anything since I've been in (charge), a long time".

"We are the ones who have to do more, fight more, and that must be our attitude". I'm pleased, absolutely, but actually that's what we expected. The competition for places is going to be fierce this season with the arrival of Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri or the possibility of incorporating another man in midfield and going with two up top - as they did for a spell against West Ham - rendering even the starting berths of their attacking triumvirate uncertain. It is a start - not ideal but really good.

Salah and Sadio Mane were able to join the club's pre-season tour in the United States are being knocked out in the group stages in Russian Federation with Egypt and Senegal, while Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Keita, Fabinho and James Milner had the summer off.

The Kop boss accepts expectations are sky high after splashing £170m this summer and impressing in pre-season.

West Ham have done very well in the transfer market this year, acquiring some quality signings well as Premier League winning manager Pellegrini. You can not create that situation, that's what I mean when I said you can not test the test before you have the test.

"For that it was a clear start, it was good".

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool will go again after Champions League final loss
It was only a check-up and the scan was clear, but he felt ill when he came back so we sent him home again. I think they had a very successful season, a good season, last time, but we didn't win a trophy".

Mane's second should have been disallowed for offside but that was the only complaint West Ham could have about the result, with Manuel Pellegrini's expensively-assembled side looking a long way from settled. However, at this stage, there is no sign of Manchester City crumbling and Liverpool may struggle to knock them off their perch.

"In our first few games we need to play some of the big teams".

Liverpool FC reached the Champions League final last season but ended up losing 3-1 to Real Madrid back in May.

'He can play different positions, obviously, but I think this is best for the moment.

"Liverpool deserved to win".

Liverpool won the game 4-0. That's the only thing I want to say. By halftime, they were 2-0 up courtesy of supreme build-up from Naby Keïta, who fed Andy Robertson to cross for a Mohamed Salah finish before James Milner broke West Ham's offside trap and Sadio Mané punished the rearguard's inability to react.

"I am not complaining". I really love how the players have reacted this summer and I can not praise them enough for the way they have stayed hungry until now.
