SC head coach Will Muschamp spoke out in support of his former defensive coordinator and current Maryland head coach DJ Durkin after a bombshell report published Friday claimed the football program developed a toxic culture under Durkin.

As of now, offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who was hired by Maryland in January, will be the interim head coach.

The school is also investigating the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair, 19, who was hospitalized May 29 and died June 13.

"At this time, the best decision for our football program is to place Maryland Head Coach DJ Durkin on leave so we can properly review the culture of the program".

Durkin's status was announced Saturday by Maryland Director of Athletics Damon Evans.

The Mustang has also competed in SCCA, Trans-Am, IMSA, NHRA, Formula Drift and NASCAR Xfinity (since 2011). Ford race auto drivers have been asking for a newer, faster design to compete with the Chevys and Toyotas.

June 25, 2018: Evans is named full-time athletic director.

"Following the death of Maryland football player Jordan McNair in June, the University of Maryland commissioned an external review of the procedures and protocols surrounding athletes' health and safety". McNair has difficulty finishing a set of 110-yard sprints and is found to have a body temperature of 106 degrees at a local hospital.

"I am extremely concerned by the allegations of unacceptable behavior by members of our football staff detailed in recent media reports".

The announcement follows an article published in ESPN this week that referenced players' complaints that Durkin and Rick Court, the person in charge of team's strength and conditioning staff, cultivated a culture of toxicity on and off the field. He reiterated his support for the full investigation of the program. The story relied on anonymous former players and others close to the program, which Muschamp took particular issue with when asked about the story.

August 11, 2018: Maryland announces Durkin has been placed on administrative leave pending an external review. Sources also told ESPN.com that Court, assistant athletic director of sports performance was also placed on leave.
