Fans have been waiting to see the new pony auto, since Ford announced in April, that it would finally bring the Mustang to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

The 2019 Mustang for NASCAR competition was unveiled Thursday at the Ford Motor Company World Headquarters. Mark Rushbrook, global director for Ford's motorsports activities, tried to push it one step farther, jokingly asking Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR's executive vice president and chief racing development officer, if the Mustang could run in Sunday's Consumers Energy 400 race at Michigan International Speedway (2:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). The Mustang has also competed in SCCA, Trans-Am, IMSA, NHRA, Formula Drift and NASCAR Xfinity (since 2011).

While Toyota will be racing the all-new Supra at NASCAR beginning starting in 2019, Ford will also be bringing a new challenger to the field - the 2019 Mustang.

Ford Performance rolled out its 2019 Mustang in grand fashion Wednesday afternoon.

Ford race auto drivers have been asking for a newer, faster design to compete with the Chevys and Toyotas. Ford also claims that the Mustang is the most featured vehicle in Hollywood movies, and has more Facebook followers than any other auto in the world.
