Manchester United reportedly wanted to sign Rafael Varane.

The club only wanted to sign a defender in the bracket of Raphaël Varane, although Real Madrid would not listen to any offers for the World Cup victor. In the campaign prior to that, United made complete mincemeat of their opponents by beating them 4-1.

The future of Manchester United and French global midfielder Paul Pogba at Old Trafford remains a mystery as the transfer window slowly begins to close as conflicting reports continue to surface.

Man Utd failed to make any deadline day signings despite Jose Mourinho's request for a new centre-back.

Manchester United might have purposefully denied Jose Mourinho his wish of a new centre-back in the hope that they can drive him out of the Old Trafford hot-seat.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insisted he is happy with his squad heading into the Premier League season, despite the club's failure to meet his transfer demands. "But it's the same conversation as with (Ashley) Young, (Marouane) Fellaini, (Jesse) Lingard, it's the same". It gives us a couple of weeks to recover people and to prepare people better and to focus on the players that are available, so I'm not even thinking about that list of players I gave you - Matic, Valencia and so on. Having left the club's United States tour to attend the birth of his child, the French forward will now "start again", Mourinho said, with pre-season training.
