"He has experience of playing in the Champions League for Shakhtar Donetsk for the past five years and the fact he has 14 caps for Brazil is a further reflection of his quality".

Everton have confirmed the signing of Brazil global Bernard on a free transfer.

Andre Gomes' Barcelona nightmare is set to be put on hold for a year after the Catalan club confirmed they have reached an agreement for him to go on loan to Everton for the 2018-19 season.

Gomes also had offers from West Ham and Valencia but opted for the Toffees.

Valverde had made it clear that Mina's World Cup had not forced him to change his opinion on the player and with six centre-backs as well as six non-EU players at the club, Barca were always likely to sell.

Mourinho frustrated as Premier League clubs race to beat new deadline
Bellamy feels that Mourinho has allowed the World Cup to sway his thinking somewhat, which he claims is out of character for the Portuguese.

"Everton is a club with a great structure and a lot of tradition".

He had previously been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, but Bernard insisted: 'I did not need any convincing to come here'.

But manager Mauricio Pochettino insisted he is happy with his squad after tying down the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min to new contracts.

"We have a very good squad, with very good players and it is very hard to add players to that", he said. Both the club and the player agreed earlier this summer that a fresh start was needed.

Bernard, who will wear the number 20 shirt on Merseyside, is eligible to make his debut in Everton's Premier League opener against newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening.
