Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said on Monday (Aug 6) that he and the Singapore delegation were waiting for a flight out of Lombok, after the Indonesian island was hit by a 6.9-magnitude natural disaster.

The quake struck Lombok in the early evening at a depth of 10 km (6 miles).

Thousands of tourists are trying to get off Indonesia's Gili Islands in the wake of a magnitude-6.9 quake which collapsed buildings.

The Indonesian archipelago, where Lombok and Bali are located, is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a 40,000-kilometer (25,000-mile) area of intense seismic and volcanic activity where most of the world's earthquakes occur.

"It felt like two meters to the left, then two meters to the right, I could not stand up", said Gino Poggiali, a 43-year-old Frenchman, who was with his wife and two children, at the Lombok airport.

"Our assessment is that people in Lombok really need shelters at the moment, especially tarps and blankets.

"All the hotel guests were running, so I did too".

Indonesian search and rescue personnel work on a collapsed mosque in Pemenang, North Lombok on August 6, 2018, the day after a magnitude 6.9 quake struck the area.

BNPB had previously put the number of dead at 105, including two on the western neighboring island of Bali, which also felt the 6.9 magnitude quake.

Celebrity model Chrissy Teigen is now holidaying there with singer husband John Legend and their two children Luna, two and Miles, three months.

The cookbook author even found time to throw in some humour - in the most Chrissy Teigen way - as she revealed that she stumbled outside with her baby saying, 'I'm naked. We are staying in a treehouse and it was swaying like insane.

Sutopo said the death toll was rushed to the hospital for further identification while those injured victims were hospitalized.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton told Fairfax Media that he was on the hotel's 12th floor when the quake struck.

Another said: "Not so big as yesterday but was quite sustained". In this case with the remote regions of the island the rescuers are not yet able to communicate why accurate data on the natural disaster do not have power.

Officials said more than 2,000 people had been evacuated from the three Gili islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, where fears of a tsunami spread among tourists.

"We understand there are other areas that are worse hit but I hope they can get the aid here soon".
