Khan has said that the case is politically motivated and has denied any wrongdoing.

During his first visit to the provincial capital after the July 25 polls, prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan appeared before a combined investigation team (CIT) of the National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in connection with an inquiry into the alleged misuse of KP government helicopters by him when his party was in power in the province. Besides this, ECP has also withheld the notification for NA-108 Faisalabad IV where Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ayaz Sadiq had secured majority.

Under the notification, Khan's wins in the three constituencies will be subject to the commission's final decision in pending cases for violations of its code of conduct.

The picture, which was posted on Khan's Instagram account, has already garnered over 14,000 likes with many people amused by the mix-up.

On July 11, the watchdog summoned Khan to appear before it on July 18 but due to electioneering, Khan's counsel Babar Awan had sought more time.
