Pogba, a key member of the French team that won the World Cup in Russian Federation last month, was part of United's youth set-up but, short of first-team opportunities, opted to join Juventus in 2012.

Blockbuster deals, by their very nature, are long-drawn processes, and while the few days left in the English transfer window may still have something in store, one can't say so for certain.

Sportsmail understands that Pogba has made it known to players and staff in the last 48 hours that he wants to be sold, two years after rejoining United from Juventus in a then world record £89million deal.

Barcelona are hoping to add Paul Pogba to their list of summer signings, but it is unlikely that Manchester United will allow the World Cup victor to go without a swap deal in place. According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, French midfielder Paul Pogba's agent has met up with Barcelona chiefs and negotiated on a deal to lure the United star to Camp Nou.

To add salt to his wounds, United target Jerome Boateng has told United that he does not wish to join them after being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Many of Manchester United's players represented their countries during the World Cup. It is understood that the hard relationship between Mourinho and his 25-year-old star has become tense once again, however.

Mourinho told MUTV he expected Rashford to get better as the week progressed.

"I think the World Cup is the ideal habitat for a player like him to give the best. Why?"

The World Cup victor, 25, contacted Red Devils supremo Ed Woodward this week to say he fancies an Old Trafford exit during this window.

Sky Italy have said that United have turned down £45m plus Everton linked defender Yerry Mina and Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes.
