Vice President Yemi Osinbajo - who is acting as head of the country while Buhari is on holiday in London, ordered the dismissal of DSS chief Lawal Musa Daura "with immediate effect". The motive for the blockade was not immediately clear. Osinbajo is acting president for Buhari, who last week left for a 10-day holiday in Britain.

The presidency in a statement said the obstruction of lawmakers was without its consent.

The siege is believed to have been targeted at Senate President Bukola Saraki to allow his removal from office while senators opposed to him would be allowed in. Saraki had called a meeting of parliamentary leaders to hold on Tuesday amid pressures on the lawmakers to approve funding for next year's election.

Melaye, while bringing his colleagues up to speed on the plot by members of the PSG, said the APC National Chairman was in a meeting with pro-Buhari senators to collect signatures for Saraki and Ekweremadu's impeachment.
