Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency, said the main focus now is "evacuation and rescue". "They have to stay near the lake", he said.

"We hope that aid will arrive quickly - there are only instant noodles here", Pebolaisia, 30, told AFP.

He added that the TNI also helped affected children recover from trauma. "Many people are sleeping outside".
