We have a health alert out of Scioto County where the West Nile Virus has been found in some mosquitoes in the Portsmouth area. There were a total of 25 reported human cases in 2017, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare's website.

West Nile virus is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. Always read the repellent label and consult with a health care provider if you have questions when using these types of products for children.

Lehigh County, where there have been 50 positive pools, and Northampton County, with 26 pools, are the 13th- and 23rd-highest counties respectively, Helwig said.

Overall, 39 cases of West Nile have been reported in humans as of July 24. These bodies of standing water are where mosquitoes lay their eggs. Long trousers and sleeves are also an important way to cut down on possible exposure to mosquitoes.

The Department of Public Health and Wellness has also advised residents to mosquito-proof their homes by installing fix screens to keep the insects outside, using an air conditioning system, and emptying standing water.

Officials also recommend dumping out standing water that can collect in old tires, planters, buckets, toys, flowerpots, trash cans and birdbaths.

The symptoms of more severe cases include disorientation, coma, tremors, vision loss and numbness.

It's not uncommon to find West Nile virus in mosquitoes found in Peel Region.
