Pepperidge Farm Recalls 4 Varieties of Goldfish Crackers

- The company that creates Ritz Cracker products has issued a voluntarily recall in the USA due to a possible Salmonella scare.

Though no illnesses have been reported in connection with the products, the company is issuing the recall as a precaution, they said in a statement.

Flowers Food has recalled Swiss Rolls sold under the brand names Mrs. Freshley's, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker's Treat, Market Square, and Great Value.

Ritz Crackers' maker recalled Ritz Bits Cheese, Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches, Ritz Bacon Cracker Sandwiches with Cheese, Ritz Whole Wheat Cracker Sandwiches with White Cheddar Cheese, Ritz Everything Cracker Sandwiches with Cream Cheese, and Mixed Cookie Variety. The company has also recalled Captain John Derst's Old Fashioned Bread.

Hy-Vee recalled Spring Pasta Salad in July when approximately 20 illnesses were potentially linked back to customers who ate the salad.

Live poultry in backyard flocks are linked to several multistate outbreaks of salmonella infections that have now sickened 212 people in 44 states, federal health officials warned Monday.

Recalled product should be discarded or may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The infections, which began in February of this year, have led to 34 people being hospitalized.

People can become ill by touching live poultry or by entering their environment.

Uncle Ben's, Ritz and Pepperidge Farm all have different parent companies, he said, and it's not unusual for the same batch of an ingredient like whey to be used by different manufacturers. The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.

Salmonella is defined as a microorganism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

The company was fined 2.58 million yuan ($282,000), and assets worth 859,000 yuan from the sales of the vaccine were confiscated. At the moment the authorities say that the vaccines are only ineffective; it is still unknown if they are harmful to health.
