Jacob Rees-Mogg, the pro-Brexit Conservative MP, made the remark after the taoiseach said that flights could be grounded if the United Kingdom left the European Union without a deal.

One that honours the referendum result, gives us control of our money, our borders, and our laws.

Derrynane House, which is now a museum dedicated to the life of the famous politician who was instrumental in fighting for the rights of Irish people in the late 18th century, was selected as the picturesque location for the round-table talks on mounting Brexit issues.

Ms Leadsom added: It needs to be quite clear to the European Union, "you've got to come to the table and start negotiating with serious focus and concentration and goodwill because otherwise, we will be leaving with no deal".

The Prime Minister was speaking in Belfast as ministers from the remaining 27 European Union states met in Brussels for a briefing from chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier on the plan set out in Mrs May's White Paper last week.

May said that "no technology solution to address these issues has been designed yet, or implemented anywhere in the world, let alone in such a unique and highly sensitive context as the Northern Ireland border". "But to evolve their position in kind", she will say, according to the text".

The Irish PM has warned that the European Union will not give ground on the crunch Brexit negotiations- despite the turmoil rocking the British government.

The conundrum: how to maintain free flow of movement across the almost 500-km border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Mrs Foster said her party wants "a sensible exit from the EU" that works for the UK, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

In a swift response, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said the bloc was open to alternative proposals on the border, but insisted it be a legally watertight agreement as part of the withdrawal treaty.

In the space of five days, the Brexit plan carefully constructed at Chequers was smashed into a million pieces.

The Prime Minister will use a speech in Belfast on Friday to reiterate her refusal to contemplate any backstop deal that treats Northern Ireland differently from the rest of the UK.

She held talks with her Westminster confidence and supply partners, the DUP, on Thursday evening, an engagement that included a private dinner with leader Arlene Foster and deputy leader Nigel Dodds in Co Fermanagh.

"If we get distracted by individual amendments to individual pieces of legislation - legislation that isn't even fully passed yet, and isn't even passed by the House of Lords yet - then I think we get dragged into an unnecessary debate that wastes a lot of time and energy", Coveney told Irish state broadcaster RTE in a radio interview.

The EU is already stepping up its preparations for a "no-deal" scenario.

On Friday morning she will meet Sinn Fein, the Ulster Unionists and Alliance Party.

"The British government's Brexit chaos has been marked by prevarication and stalling, ever changing positions and broken agreements", she said.
