Can a blockchain-powered phone help HTC out of the woods?

While HTC says The Exodus will have a "cold storage wallet", The Block was more interested in the company's focus on facilitating the distribution of dapps (decentralised applications), which it rationally believes, will find their place on mobile.

Amidst the fall in its finances, HTC had to take drastic steps, which included the laying off of over 1,500 staffs in Taiwan, to remain financially healthy and avoid excess overhead costs.

Prior to the launch, HTC partnered with popular blockchain title CryptoKitties. And now, the company is losing the market by the day due to a stiff competition from the other OEMs, which offer an affordable smartphone and HTC is not able to cope up with those smartphone brands. It can also be used as a mining rig for its users to earn new tokens connected to the Exodus Blockchain.

HTC, the self-proclaimed "leading innovator in smart phone devices", will release its "blockchain phone" later this year.

When it was initially announced back in May, Chen had commented that "we envision a phone where you hold your own keys, you own your own identity and data, and your phone is the hub".

The dispute has jolted global financial markets, raising worries a full-scale trade war could derail the world economy. China's exports rose 11.3% in June from a year earlier, compared with a 12.6% increase in May, customs data showed.

The company has also announced partnerships with blockchain developers to build new ecosystems based on distributed ledger technology. The Exodus still doesn't have a firm release date, but HTC states that it's planning to unveil the device by the end of the third quarter this year.

In short, HTC is in a precarious financial situation and has troubled to stay afloat in the unforgiving smartphone market.

The smartphone is expected to get nearly flagship stuffing, but details about it were not disclosed.

Making every phone a node of Ethereum and bitcoin for true decentralization, the handset will have a universal wallet and trusted and user-friendly user interface.
