Royal flypast celebrates RAF centenary

Louis' parents, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, were joined by Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

The centrepiece of RAF100 is today, with a service in Westminster Abbey, followed by a parade in The Mall and spectacular flypast over Buckingham Palace.

Prince William served a stint in the RAF Search and Rescue service in North Wales, and Prince Harry also briefly took part at RAF Shawbury.

Queen Elizabeth and senior members of her family were attending celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of Britain's Royal Air Force on Tuesday, ahead of a flypast of nearly 100 aircraft over Buckingham Palace in central London.

Later, Harry and Meghan, along with Prince William and Duchess Kate of Cambridge, appeared at a reception at the palace.

Meghan Markle stood pride of place on the royal balcony beside the Queen.

Never one to shy away from color, the Queen chose a vibrant coat and hat featuring two contrasting shades of blue.

In the comedy categories, hip-hop themed FX show " Atlanta " is up against Amazon's ( AMZN.O ) " The Marvelous Mrs. The 70th annual Primetime Emmys will air September 17 from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Palace tweeted about the Duke of Cambridge's connection to the RAF, having received his wings as an RAF pilot (by his father, no less) in April 2008.

While the Duchess of Sussex went for her go-to as well, sporting a boat neckline on a fitted and flared bespoke black Dior dress.

Missing was the queen's husband, Prince Philip, 97, who has retired from public life.

Hundreds of servicemen and women then took part in a parade on the Mall, leading up to Buckingham Palace, before members of the royal family gathered to watch the flypast, which included Chinooks, Spitfires, Hawks and Red Arrows. In addition to today's event, she will also meet with President Trump at Windsor Castle on Friday.

Despite still being officially on maternity leave, Kate Middleton attended the service as Patron of the RAF Air Cadets, which was her first official Royal military appointment, taking over from the Duke of Edinburgh in 2015.

100 aircraft swept across the United Kingdom capital on July 10 in the centrepiece event of the 2018 RAF Centenary. The Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service merged to create the RAF in 1918.
