Denver Broncos: Supplemental draft prospects of interest

On the eve of the draft, Alexander sent teams a clean drug test from this week, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, who added that Alexander had a marijuana-related arrest in 2016. The team must forfeit the corresponding round pick in the next regular draft, though. To determine that, teams are divided up into three groups: Teams that won fewer than five games, teams that won more than five games but missed the playoffs and then playoff teams.

Could the Chiefs replace Peters with Beal in the supplemental draft? If the Texans take the risk, Beal could reward it with years of solid play.

The Bucs' Supplemental Draft drought is not particularly unusual; the teams in their own division have been just as quiet, for instance.

The Broncos are in a rare position where the supply meets their potential demand in the supplemental draft. Nearly every team in the league has made a Supplemental Draft pick at some point in its history, since the process first began in 1977, but few have gone back to the well often.

The Supplemental Draft consists of a handful of players who did not enter April's player selection meeting.

Any team that's evaluating Beal has to ask themselves and perhaps bring it up to him that if he's unable or unwilling to take on MAC running backs, how is that situation going to improve against someone like Le'Veon Bell or Todd Gurley. Though, the Chiefs are not expected to have interest in any of those three players. Only one other pick was made Wednesday: The New York Giants added Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal in the third round. If a team doesn't want him at linebacker, they could try and move him to a special teams or box safety role.

It'll be exciting to have another little micro draft on Wednesday, but I'm convinced the Fins will sit this one out and reserve all their picks for the 2019 Draft.

This year's draft will begin at 1 p.m. ET.

The unusual "lottery" format of the draft allowed the Giants to have the third pick in every round, following the Raiders and crosstown Jets. That was a shame because it would have been the second selection of that round, number 57 overall.

Miller wrote Beal was "the best prospect to enter the league's supplemental draft in a long time". For some teams, his academic and off-field issues have made him a player on whom they'll pass. If Chicago spends a third-round pick in July, they lose a third rounder next year. They should certainly consider it and potentially bid a late-rounder for a guy like Beal - even though it won't be enough to get him - but anything more than a fifth-round pick should be out of the question.

The highest-profile supplemental pick of recent vintage would be Josh Gordon, the Baylor receiver taken by Cleveland with a second-round pick in 2012. Last year, in his junior season, he intercepted two passes to go with ten breakups. With Virginia Tech's Adonis Alexander and Western Michigan's Sam Beal as the two premiere options.

Browns fans are more familiar with this process than most teams. Virginia Tech confirmed in June he was no longer a member of the team after Alexander announced through his agent he was academically ineligible for the 2018 season.
