With anti-social elements and criminals more and more employing WhatsApp to share false new via group chats, the firm is aiming to include new features to verify this mistreatment of its instant messaging application. The move came after a series of violent lynchings were triggered by the spread of false information.

The advertisements are the first measure taken by the social media company to raise awareness about fake messages, following a warning by the Indian government that it needs to take immediate action to curb the spread of false information.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp told that it was educating users to identify fake news as well as considering changes to the service with a public beta test in the works, that was working towards labeling any forwarded message.

"Do not pay attention to the number of times you receive the message", it reads. Most of the time, 3rd-party links can direct you to nasty website that installs malware on the device.

WhatsApp has been struggling to control the spread of misinformation and fake news on its platform.

The Suspicious Link Detection tool has appeared on Android versions of the app attempting to fight the spread of fake news and the spamming of malicious links. In the latest occurrence, five people were lynched by a mob in Maharashtra on the suspicion of being child kidnappers.

While the Law and order machinery is taking steps to apprehend the culprits, the abuse of platform like WhatsApp for repeated circulation of such provocative content are equally a matter of deep concern. When you click on the former, then the participants will not be able to send messages, photos, video etc to the group.

India is WhatsApp's largest market, with an estimated 200 million users sending a billion encrypted messages each day.
