McCarthy: Giuliani Understands Mueller Probe 'Has Always Been About Impeachment'

On NBC's "Meet the Press", Giuliani said Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen should feel free to cooperate with the special counsel and federal prosecutors investigating him, encouraging Cohen to flip on the president.

Giuliani also said he had "zero" concern that Michael Cohen, a former Trump attorney who represented him for a decade while he was a NY real estate mogul and into the first year of his presidency, might provide prosecutors damaging information about Trump.

A day after he tweeted "I will always protect my POTUS" in April, the FBI raided his home, office and hotel room as part of a probe by federal prosecutors in NY into his business dealings. "I do not expect Michael Cohen is going to lie". What I said was they have to give us a factual basis, meaning some suspicion of a crime, ' he said.

Former federal prosecutor and Fox News contributor Andy McCarthy said Giuliani is implementing a smart strategy because the Mueller probe has always been about public opinion, and a new Washington Post-Schar School poll shows Americans are increasingly disapproving of the way Mueller has handled the Russian Federation probe. "The reality is there is no evidence of wrongdoing by the president, no evidence of collusion".

Now less than four months before the 2018 midterm elections, it's anyone's guess as to if, or when, President Trump might sit down with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III as part of his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Giuliani said, "If the president says, 'I fired him for the good of the United States, '" it was justification enough.

Giuliani said as much Sunday.

"My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will", Cohen said.

Sacha Baron Cohen teases a new Trump-related project
A photo of Baron Cohen's face scrolls across the screen, followed by the text, "He's back as you've never seen him before". Although Trump has denied the relationship, the payment was authorized on the eve of the 2016 presidential election.

"Mr. Comey continued his Machiavellian behavior after President Trump was elected", Kasowitz wrote.

The letter, obtained by the Associated Press, underscores the intense effort by Trump's legal team over the previous year to tarnish Comey's reputation and pit the president's word against that of the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

'We would not recommend an interview for the President unless they can satisfy us that there is some basis for this investigation, ' Giuliani said.

"It's our firm belief, and we think nothing contradicts this, the president did nothing wrong", he said.

As Trump continues to assert his willingness to speak with Mueller, his words are increasingly being undermined by his own legal team and one of its newer additions, Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Cohen's attorney, however, urged the president and his lawyers to buckle up. There is no indication when the Mueller probe might end and his team has not publicly responded to Trump's frequent attacks on it, claiming it is biased against him.

Cohen, in the interview, also specifically raised the point that he believes the intelligence communities over Trump.
