Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns sign five-year, $158M extension

Devin Booker, the high-scoring guard at the heart of Phoenix's rebuilding plans, has signed a five-year, $158 million maximum contract with the Suns.

The Kentucky product averaged career-highs in points (24.9), rebounds (4.5), and assists (4.7) last season, while getting crowned as the 3-Point Contest victor during All-Star Weekend. Thank you to the Suns for drafting me and believing in me.

Under the current salary construction, Booker will make $27.3 million starting in 2019-20, and could make as much as a hair short of $36 million by the 2023-24 season. "Devin and the team both wanted to extend this agreement with the club as long as we possibly could".

"'Book' has been a pillar for the Suns franchise ever since he arrived in Phoenix in 2015", McDonough said in a news release announcing the signing.

No word yet on if Booker got an option before the fifth year of the deal or not.

In 2017, Booker became the first player in franchise history to score 70 points, doing so against the Boston Celtics in a March 24 game.

On March 24, 2017, Booker scored a franchise record 70 points at Boston, becoming just the 6th player in National Basketball Association history to record a 70-point game.

While the No. 1 overall pick was balling out for the other team, Bagley showed that he can keep up.

This is just the first of what should be many battles between Ayton and Bagley as pros.
