Putin happy to hold one-on-one meeting with Trump at summit, says Kremlin

A summit that brings together Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump is set for July 16 in Finland.

U.S. -Russian ties have hit the lowest point in decades due to sanctions over Russian interference in the U.S. 2016 election and disagreement over Syria, Ukraine and other topics.

He said the Kremlin was "very satisfied" that the senators were visiting Russian Federation. "First, we need to resolve those disputes and irritants that we have in our bilateral relations".

"I hope your visit will be a symbol of restoring relations between the two parliaments", Lavrov told them during a meeting, Interfax said.

"I hope coming out of the Helsinki meeting between our two presidents will be the beginning of some type of better understanding".

Trump and Putin will meet in Helsinki, Finland, on July 16, after Trump travels to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels, Belgium, and to the United Kingdom. Trump pulled the US out of the deal earlier this year.
