Trump said he plans to interview six or seven people from his candidate list and will make an announcement of his pick on July 9.

The president spent the weekend at his Bedminster golf club, consulting with advisers, including White House counsel Don McGahn, as he considers his options to fill the vacancy with a justice who has the potential to be part of precedent-shattering court decisions on abortion, health care, gay marriage and other issues. "The Department of Justice is fully engaged to support the nomination and confirmation efforts".

U.S. President Donald Trump said he met with four potential Supreme Court justices on Monday, while a person familiar with the selection process said Trump was focused keenly on two people, although others were still in contention.

Pro-choice activists are reportedly sending Sen. Cory Booker saying there should be no nominee until after Robert Mueller ends his Russian Federation probe.

Collins indicated in a recent article in Maine's Portland Press Herald that she would not take Roe v. Wade into consideration when voting on a replacement for Justice Anthony Kennedy, prompting fears a new justice will overturn the court's 1973 landmark decision on abortion. "That'll happen automatically, in my opinion, because I am putting pro-life justices on the court", Trump said.

Manchin has already warned the White House against an overtly anti-abortion nominee. John McCain of Arizona. He says both would be threatened by a conservative Trump nominee. "We believe him. For the sake of women in ME, and across the country, we hope Senator Collins does too", NARAL President Ilyse Hogue said in a statement.

"A nominee's position on whether or not they respect precedent will tell me a lot about whether or not they would overturn Roe v. Wade", she told ABC News' Martha Raddatz during an interview Sunday.

And if the votes result in a tie, Vice President Pence will hold the tie-breaking vote-and his anti-abortion stance is well-known.

Supreme Court justices are appointed for a lifetime term, making age a key factor in determining the court's makeup in the years to come. But Lee is not believed to be on Trump's short list.

This was made known by the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu on the Floor of the House today, Tuesday [July 3, 2018], following a statement the Presidency sent to Parliament.

Mr. Trump is also considering two women for the nomination. In 2006, Bush appointed Kavanaugh to the U.S. court of appeals for the DC circuit.
