McCain: Trump halting Korean military exercises a 'bad negotiating tactic'

In Wormuth's view, Trump's stated concern about the cost of such exercises, combined with his talk of eventually bringing all USA troops home from South Korea, is likely to create doubt in Seoul and Tokyo about American steadfastness.

In the military, returning a salute from a military officer of a friendly foreign nation is common practice for US military officers and considered a display of military professionalism. Kim Jong-un indicated that in Singapore and shared that vision.

The Korean Central Television documentary also showed crowds of cheering people as Mr Kim left Pyongyang, and the leader aboard his Air China flight.

"I think we must continue to worry about the nuclear threat", he said.
