Republican Danny Tarkanian, son of legendary UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, and Democrat Susie Lee, a Las Vegas philanthropist, captured their parties' nominations in southern Nevada's 3rd District, where incumbent Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen advanced to face GOP Sen. Harry Reid. Angle, who lost to Reid in her 2010 bid for Senate, is challenging Rep. Mark Amodei, who is favored in his campaign for renomination in Nevada's 2nd District.

Since President Donald Trump took office a year ago, 25 legislative and congressional seats have flipped from Republican to Democrat, according to Charles Franklin, a pollster and political scientist at Marquette University Law School. Warren surged in the final weeks of the race to edge out Catherine Templeton, a former member of Haley's Cabinet, for the No. 2 position in the race and the runoff slot.

Another X factor is women, whom Democrats have courted more heavily than usual this season. The president's broadside marked the first time he targeted a congressional Republican incumbent in the midterms.

Historically, there has been a lower turnout in primary elections than in November elections, City and County Clerk Jim Candelarie said in a memo. The state is trying ranked voting for the first time - but voters are also being asked whether they want to keep that system in place. That year, voters there ousted Democrat Steven Horsford after one term and elected Republican Cresent Hardy, who was unseated in 2016 by a Democrat who in December announced a scandal-driven retirement.

The question is whether that path results in Democrats gaining the 23 new seats they need for a majority.

In that pursuit he's drawn four GOP challengers, including Lt. Gov. Kevin Bryant and Yancey McGill, a former Democratic state senator who briefly served as lieutenant governor. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) race doesn't appear on our list of top-10 most competitive Senate races, but Senate Republicans were hoping to make it competitive by nominating the right candidate to take him on.

Wexton garnered 42 percent of the votes, almost a 2-to-1 lead over her nearest contender, Alison K. Friedman. "You don't have to be defined by your worst mistake", Parnell said in a statement. Dean Heller. As the only GOP senator running for re-election in a state that Hillary Clinton won in 2016, Heller is considered the most endangered Republican incumbent this year.

Friedman, who said she made a decision to run for office in part because Trump "scared my kids", said potential Democrat-led impeachment proceedings in the House would be "one of the most serious moments in our nation's history", but wouldn't commit to voting for impeachment without reviewing any impeachment articles.

Supreme Court for the final time in 1971, liberal stalwart Justice William Brennan convinced his colleagues to hear the case. And Trump recently pardoned conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza, who was convicted of a campaign finance violation.

A key measure of Democrats' leanings will come in suburban northern Virginia, where vulnerable Republican Barbara Comstock has a half-dozen Democrats vying to win her seat in November.

On the Democratic side, one-term Rep. Jacky Rosen was projected as the victor over five long-shot candidates.

Among the seats that went to Democrats was a state Senate seat in western Wisconsin won by Patty Schachtner in January.

ME voters are deciding on a successor to term-limited, conservative Republican Gov. Paul LePage. Virginia has open primaries, which means party does not matter. But the race is close on the Democratic side - either Steve Sisolak or Christina Giunchigliani, both Clark County Commissioners, is expected to take the nomination.

A key indicator is the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's "Red to Blue" program, the party's top candidates for flipping Republican seats. He somewhat improbably won election to Congress a few years later.

Businessman Brandon Brown and accountant Doris Lee Turner will meet in a runoff to determine the Democratic nominee for the 4th District.

The race for Secretary of State also has a Swampscott connection, as town resident Anthony Amore, the security chief at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, is running unopposed in the Republican primary. Ben Cline, a former staffer to retiring Rep.
