Trump has said he was open to having a summit with Putin, who USA intelligence officials have said directed Russian meddling in the 2016 election to help Trump win.

Although G7 leaders ignored US President Donald Trump's proposal to invite back Moscow into the club, Putin said he would be happy to be readmitted.

"The U.S. president has repeatedly said that it's reasonable to hold such a meeting", he said.

"As soon as the American side is ready this meeting would take place depending on my working schedule of course".

President Xi Jinping gave the leaders of Pakistan and India a "special welcome" to their first summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao, since their countries joined the group a year ago.

Putin, speaking after the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the Chinese port city of Qingdao, said Sunday that it was the other member states' decision to skip a scheduled summit in Russian Federation in 2014 and that they are welcome to Russian Federation.

In the United States, Trump's comments drew criticism from some fellow Republicans, including Senator John McCain, who slammed Trump for treating Putin with "the deference and esteem that should be reserved for our closest allies". "Colleagues refused to come to Russian Federation on well-known grounds".

On Friday, Putin said both nations "are interested in establishing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula".

"Russia has done nothing to earn its way back to the table", Donilon also said.

However, Peskov also stressed that no specific agreement had been reached about holding a summit between Trump and Putin. "I think this is a very important step in building our relations".

Russian Federation was expelled from the group four years ago after annexing Ukraine's Crimea Peninsula and sparking a war in eastern Ukraine that has killed more than 10,300 people.

The shift has yielded only modest economic benefits, with Russia's two-way trade with China still less than half what it is with Europe, but it has allowed Mr. Putin to slough off his country's isolation from the West.

"I see this as an acknowledgement and an evaluation of Russia's efforts to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership with China", he said.

US-Russian relations have been hit by years of disagreement over the Syrian conflict, Russia's annexation of Crimea and its involvement in eastern Ukraine.

The group demonstrated solidarity in pledging to uphold the Iran nuclear deal, a major source of G-7 contention after Trump's withdrawal last month. He also blamed former US President Barack Obama for Russia's move into that nation.
