Mr Trump said the move would protect domestic producers that were vital to USA security.

All the group's leaders had spoken publicly about the summit and the Canadian government had issued the communique when Trump's tweets were posted.

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", the leaders were quoted as saying by Reuters in a statement after a meeting that focused heavily on a current trade row between the USA and its allies.

We are focused on everything we accomplished here at the #G7 summit.

Nevertheless, the G-7 leaders appeared to be limping towards something that could look like a win at the two-day summit, even if it came far short of the broad communique signed by all attendees that typically comes out of their summits.

RASCOE: It doesn't seem like the leaders really reached a concrete solution for all of these trade disputes.

At what a French described as one "extraordinary" session on Friday, leaders who had vowed to confront Trump over his decision to impose tariffs on United States allies last week as part of his "America First" agenda, showered Trump with data one after the other.

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", the statement said. That would be an incredibly heavy lift and fundamentally change global trade.

Trump also broke with other G7 leaders by calling for Russian Federation to be re-admitted to the group. And what's his argument? "That's a very profitable answer if we have to do it", he said at a press conference.

"In one way, it's easier and people find it fascinating", Trump said about the celebrity pardons in particular. "If they retaliate, they're making a mistake", Trump declared. He will fly to Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which he described as a "mission of peace". What did he have to say ahead of that meeting?

Trump, who has exchanged barbs with Macron via Twitter in the lead-up to the summit in Canada, also had warm words for the French president.
