The Cuban missed weight, so the fight will be a non-title event.

New Zeland's Robert Whittaker (185) has made championship weight to meet Yoel Romero in one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's biggest pay-per-views in 2018 to date. The bout will go ahead as a nontitle fight. Now that he is on the sidelines working more and more with FOX Sports, the former UFC middleweight champion remains that way. "Absolutely it's on. (Romero) missed by 0.2 (lbs)", White said on the official weigh-in broadcast.

There is no word from the UFC if the fight will proceed and how the purses will be divided.

Whittaker said: "I have a great team and a great staff".

"I don't think he can change that drastically at his age and in this little amount of time before the fight", he said.

This is the second consecutive fight in which Romero has missed weight. "Look, if you don't make weight, you're breaching a contract straight up".

He ascended to the undisputed middleweight championship after claiming the interim belt with a five-round unanimous decision victory over Romero as a minus-125 chalk at UFC 213 that extended his win streak to eight fights going into Saturday night's matchup at the United Center in Chicago. Romero was granted two hours to see if he could lose that last pound but did not show up until 10 minutes before the cut-off point.

However, Whittaker posted to Twitter following the weigh-in, with his message all but confirming his intention to fight Romero.

Romero was given two hours to make the weight and according to Romero and his manager, the two hours were cut short.
