On Saturday, the Queen, who last month had a successful day procedure to remove a cataract, left Buckingham Palace at 10.45am (local time) for the ceremony. Prince Harry sported military attire, as did his brother, Prince William, and father, Prince Charles. His absence had nothing to do with his recent hip surgery. He will celebrate his 97th birthday Sunday.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a dress by Carolina Herrera and a hat by Philip Treacy, while Kate wore a dress by Alexander McQueen and a hat by Juliette Botterill.

"She also wore some new pieces from Birks-obviously now looking to be Meghan's jeweler of choice-which were a nice nod to her Canadian "roots" (whilst not being Canadian) while also still including more diamonds as befitting her new status".

Next week, Meghan Markle will be going it solo without Prince Harry for a royal appearance alongside Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Elizabeth II also selected a blue ensemble, choosing a dress and hat in a bolder blue than the shade chosen by Middleton and Parker-Bowles. Meghan and Harry have stated their desire to jump right in and get to work in their new roles.
