World champion in Middleweight for the WBC, WBA and IBO Gennady Golovkin (photo) from Kazakhstan (38 victories, 34 by knockout, 1 draw) was stripped of the International Boxing Federation IBF belt.

This decision was taken by the worldwide Boxing Federation after the failure of the Kazakh to hold the third of August 2018 fight with mandatory Challenger Sergey Derevyanchenko, according to XSPORT. In a statement, the organisation said: "After a lengthy review and period of deliberation, the International Boxing Federation has vacated the IBF Middleweight title held by Gennady Golovkin". I can't understand why the IBF stripped of the title Golovkin is a big surprise for all of us.

This comes after Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reported Golden Boy CEO and Canelo Alvarez promoter Oscar De La Hoya ended discussions about a potential rematch between his fighter and Golovkin because the latter wanted a 50-50 split.

The IBF said it agreed to Golovkin's request so long as he agreed to fight Derevyanchenko by the August deadline.

DiBella pushed for the IBF to force Golovkin to make his mandatory defense against Derevyanchenko on May 5, once Canelo Alvarez withdrew from his rematch against Golovkin due to his impending suspension. He would have had until August 3 to prepare for the fight, but Golovkin never agreed.

"Gennady is disappointed in the ruling". That fight, scheduled for May 5 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, was canceled because the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Alvarez for six months for failing two performance-enhancing drug tests in February.

However, Loeffler said Golovkin is willing to drop his demands for an even split. The second-highest ranked contender is Daniel Jacobs, who is now negotiating a fight with Canelo Alvarez. The rematch with GGG is his biggest fight by far and Gennady's biggest fight.
