Queen Maxima of Holland's younger sister found dead in Argentina

Earlier Thursday it was announced that Inés Zorreguieta, the younger sister of Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, had died in an apparent suicide.

A spokesperson for the Dutch government confirmed the news to La Nación: "We can confirm that Inés Zorreguieta, sister of Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, died on Wednesday night". Zorreguieta worked as a civil servant in Buenos Aires and was a guitarist. The spokeswoman said the death was a "suspected suicide". "I wish them all the strength necessary to carry this frightful loss together and I trust that they will get the peace and space for that".

Her father, Jorge Horacio Zorreguieta, died a year ago in Buenos Aires at age 89. "And I trust that they will get the peace and space for that". She canceled her upcoming engagements including a state visit to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Zorreguieta worked for the government for the social development ministry in Buenos Aires and previously at a United Nations office in Panama and as a psychologist for an office on social policies at the president's office.

The Queen, originally from Argentina, was said by the royal household to be "very shocked and very sad".
