Alan O’Neill Dies: ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Actor Was 47

While Sons of Anarchy was arguably O'Neill's most prominent work, he had a string of sucessful roles under his belt before his death.

Actor Alan O'Neill, best known for his portrayal of Hugh on Sons of Anarchy, has died at 47. "We worked together on The Sons of condolences to his family".

The news site also reports that O'Neill had suffered heart problems, smoked regularly and had a history of drug and alcohol abuse.

According to TMZ, "no foul play is suspected' and an autopsy will be done".

O'Neill's acting career dates back to the 1990s.

As reports of his death emerged tonight, shocked friends and fans took to social media to share fond memories of Alan.

Irish actress Jenny Dixon paid a touching tribute to O'Neill on Twitter.

She wrote: "One of the first films I did & a privilege to act across from @AlanONeill19". Alan was only ever a phone call away.

She tweeted: "Thank you for your kindness".

Fair City's Seamus Power, who plays Dermot on the show, said he "always enjoyed working with him".
