Prior to that, Vibe reported that, according to reggaeton producer DJ Nelson, Smith and Nicky Jam were working on the song.

The four are believed to have filmed the video for the World Cup track over the weekend as well. The track will reportedly be released on Friday, and is thought to have been produced by Diplo.

"Nicky Jam and Will Smith are producing the new copa de futbol (soccer World Cup), they're doing it together", he said.

A day before Smith made the announcement about the World Cup, Jam had posted a picture of the pair on Twitter, saying: "The best of everything is the process".

Smith and Jam have been seen in Cartegena, Colombia, with producer DJ Nelson telling music web site Vibe they might be performing the tune for this summer season's event in Russian Federation.

Tradition dictates that the track will be performed at either the World Cup opening ceremony, which will be on June 14 before Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia kick off the tournament at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, or at the closing ceremony ahead of the final at the same venue on July 15.

Harry Kane has been confirmed as England's captain for their upcoming World Cup campaign; the Tottenham striker has already captained the Three Lions on four occasions but has now been appointed as the permanent skipper for this summer's tournament in Russian Federation. However, he's certainly proven his ability to make catchy anthems, especially when they're tied to big projects - think "Men In Black" and "Wild West West".

Past anthems include Shakira's 'Waka Waka' at the 2010 World Cup and Pitbull alongside Jennifer Lopez's We are one (Ole Ola) at the 2014 edition. This year it will be Colors by Jason Derulo and Maluma.
