The cancellation of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine "was based on a variety of factors", Walden said.

Gary Newman and Dana Walden, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, put out a statement noting that the show "ended too soon and the outcry from the fans has been deafening". We love this show, those are great creators, it's a phenomenal cast.

"We're really pleased with how "The X-Files" did this past season", Thorn said.

Inspired by the life of Lil Rel Howery ("Get Out", "Insecure", "The Carmichael Show"), REL is a multi-camera comedy starring Howery as a loving husband and father living in Chicago, who finds out his wife is having an affair, and must rebuild his life as a single father, following his divorce.

"Obviously, I think everyone took a good hard look at the performance of 'Roseanne, '" she explained. We wanted to give Bob's Burgers an opportunity to have a plum time period and really grow.

"We just think it's a really amusing show" with general appeal, he said in announcing the network's 2018-19 schedule with fellow chairman and CEO Dana Walden. We were trying to create a more cohesive program, and scheduling Brooklyn would prevent us from promoting something new.

In other words: We're so glad the show we broke up with met somebody else!

Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" is returning to television this fall after it was renewed by Fox on Friday - and its star may have fellow comedian Roseanne Barr to thank for it.

Walden noted that a comedy like Last Man Standing has an easier "point of entry" for viewers than a serialized comedy like Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

"Roseanne", which similarly follows a working-class conservative white family, was revived earlier this year to wildly successful early ratings and praise from President Trump himself.

Fox made room for Allen's comedy and more, canceling a total of five shows including "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", "The Last Man on Earth", "The Mick", "Lucifer" and "The Exorcist".

"We've been talking to Tim throughout the year", she said. "With tediously unfunny scripts and a listless cast that looks as if it can barely wait for the director to shout 'Cut!' so it can head en masse to the unemployment office, Last Man Standing is some kind of voracious video parasite that sucks out all intellect, sense of goal or will to live".

"It's a really amusing show", she said. But Fox was aware others were interested in the show and is "happy" it found a home, she said. "We always felt like for whatever reason, ABC didn't really prioritize 'Last Man Standing'". "We always wondered how it would do if it were. prioritized more". "We were emboldened by Roseanne".

Whatever the case, FOX may also reap some benefits from the notoriety wielded by the conservative Tim Allen, as well as the fact that most Tim Allen characters are not-so-loosely based upon Tim Allen.
