The lucky top five even got to sing on stage with Underwood, who, 13 years after winning the show, said that coming full circle felt very surreal. I guess all you have to do is be a white guy with a guitar (no, I'm not making this about race, WGWG is an old term dating back to days) and sing country music and you're golden with American Idol voters. The fact is, you saw exactly what being on stage with Carrie was like.

But Katy suggested Cadee should work on the dynamics of his vocal performance, meaning he could be more subtle at the start of a song and build upon that so he has more to play with. Foehner kept things short, saying, "I think the same".

"My shirt for today... unfortunately, my kid can't read, so I have, indeed, been messed with", Carrie jokingly revealed, admitting that part of her mommy drama for the morning included him getting yogurt in her hair and then losing control of the TV remote.

Carrie tells Maddie her voice is hypnotic, but she's second-guessing herself too much and over-analyzing the song. Bryan told her not to worry about high notes or low notes, just tell the story like she does. Richie let her know she suffers the same phobia as every other artist: overthinking! Each performer starts out with a heartfelt letter to their moms.

Washington Capitals vs. Tampa Bay Lightning: 3 takeaways from Game 1
Alex Ovechkin leads Washington with nine goals, Nicklas Backstrom has 10 assists and Evgeny Kuznetsov has 45 shots on goal. There were a couple encouraging aspects of the Game 1 loss for the Lightning, though you have to look hard to find them.

She says, "You're going to hear no a million times before you hear yes". Perry said she didn't know where that voice came from but the performance made her wig loose.

Bryan enjoyed hearing Caleb in his country music wheelhouse and said he sees a big future for the young singer. Perry said this is one of her top three songs ever and Maddie did it justice. Katy added that Maddie's "taste is impeccable" and she should "trust it, always".

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced at the conclusion of the broadcast Cade and Michael had been ousted from the competition based on the results of the real-time, home-viewer voting that occurred as the finalists performed. "We loved that you got choked up at your own emotional scene".

According to Facebook, now that Maddie has made it to the final three for "American Idol", there will be a hometown parade and concert for her.
