Gulf disturbance brings rain back to MS

While development isn't likely, this area of low pressure will bring most of Florida and even our area rain. This storm system will cross the gulf over the next couple of days and move in our direction.

The storm already dumped a prodigious amount of rain on South Florida over the weekend, setting a new one-day record for the date in Key West with almost three-and-a-half inches and sparking tornado and flash-flood warnings across the region.

The heavy rainfall may come as a welcome reprieve to the drought that is now gripping parts of the average temperatures continue to climb above normal in most parts of the country, the U.S. Drought Monitor reported.

The National Hurricane Center is focusing on a cluster of showers off the Florida coast for possible tropical development this week.

If surface low pressure becomes a well-defined circulation with enough convection nearby, this would be the first subtropical or tropical depression or storm of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season, which doesn't officially begin until June 1.
