Former NFL Coach Chuck Knox Dies at 86

"The Seahawks family is saddened by the loss of Chuck Knox, and our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife, Shirley, and the entire Knox family", the team said in a statement Sunday. The Rams went a combined 15-33 in Knox's three seasons before the franchise moved to St. Louis. His debut season with the Seahawks in 1983 was highlighted by the first playoff appearance in franchise history; Seattle advanced to the AFC Championship Game against the Raiders with a road upset of Dan Marino's Miami Dolphins in the divisional round.

The Seahawks introduced Knox's demise Sunday morning, describing him as a "beloved figurehead by gamers, coaches and workers".

'We are saddened by the loss of Chuck Knox, a legendary coach and member of the Los Angeles Rams family. That was the site of his longest stint, nine years with the Seahawks that produced 80 wins, plus three more in four trips to the playoffs, and the first taste of sustained success for a franchise that had originated in 1976. Knox went 186-147-1 during 22 seasons as an National Football League head coach, including two stints with the Rams and another with the Buffalo Bills.

In their statement, the Rams said that Knox "established a winning culture and a legacy that will never be forgotten, being the only coach to lead the Rams to five consecutive double-digit-win seasons".

The Pennsylvania native left the Rams in 1978 for the Buffalo Bills.
