Overseas, the mega-superhero mashup grossed another $162.6 million for a foreign total of $713.3 million and $1.164 billion worldwide.

Avengers: Infinity War is finishing up its second week at the box office and while it crushed so many records in its path, one was just out of their reach.

Domestically, the film took in another US$112 million - the second biggest second weekend ever, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens - and has now made US$450 million in the United States and Canada.

The first of a two-part installment from the Marvel Entertainment franchise, "Infinity War" garnered $112.5 million from theaters in the USA and Canada, ComScore Inc. estimated in an email Sunday.

"This rapid dash toward the enviable and exceptional 1 billion bar is a testament to this indisputable worldwide allure and drawing on power of this Marvel manufacturer", said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore. If Marvel is ever going to lose to anyone it definitely makes sense it would be a Star Wars film.
