Man U pleads 'Win this one' for Ferguson

SIR Alex Ferguson remained in intensive care at Salford Royal Hospital last night after undergoing emergency surgery on Saturday following a brain haemorrhage.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore: "It's obviously a big shock but the most important thing is to wish him well, and his family well, to respect their privacy, and hope that very, very soon he's back to his best".

Ferguson has been coaching Manchester United for 27 years (1986-2013) and won 38 trophies, including 13 championships in England and two Champions League.

Former Arsenal stars Thierry Henry and Robin Van Persie - who played under Sir Alex in his final season - wished him a speedy recovery, as did former footballer and pundit Gary Lineker.

The club released a statement saying: "Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain haemorrhage. Sending prayers and love to (wife) Cathy and the whole family".

Alongside a picture of him signing a contract as a youngster, former United midfielder David Beckham wrote on Instagram: "Keep fighting Boss".

Managers Sam Allardyce of Everton and Southampton's Mark Hughes, a former United player under the Scot, also added their best wishes following the first Premier League game after the news broke.

Ferguson's son Darren, the manager of Doncaster Rovers, was reported to have missed his team's match on Saturday for family reasons. Thoughts with all the family.

Others also pointed to Sir Alex's infamous ability to put up a good fight as they voiced their hopes he would pull through.

"All our thoughts are with Lady Cathy and the rest of Sir Alex's family at this hard time".

He said: "Every brain injury is unique, as is every individual's recovery".

Ferguson has been married to wife Cathy since 1966.

Rivals Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City all sent their thoughts for the 76-year-old.

"No updates, just an endless list of tweets from the 4 corners of the world showing support and love".

Prior to arriving at Old Trafford, Ferguson, enjoyed success as manager of Aberdeen, interrupting Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers' Old Firm dominance of Scottish football by winning three league championships, four domestic Cups and the 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup in charge of the Dons.
