I repaid lawyer for silencing porn star Stormy Daniels

Giuliani told The New York Times he had documentation proving Trump had reimbursed the sum, which he said "removes the campaign finance violation" prospect.

The president's comments reiterated an explosive announcement late Wednesday by one of his recently hired attorneys, Rudy Giuliani, who said on Fox News that the president reimbursed Cohen for the payment to actress Stephanie Clifford, who performs as Stormy Daniels.

Sanders referred questions of when Trump knew about the payments to Giuliani.

Appearing on Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" Thursday morning, Giuliani said Cohen had been acting independently, probably to save Trump from the fallout of another scandal so close to Election Day.

Thursday was not one of White House press secretary Sarah Sanders' best days. She asserts that she and the President had sex once in 2006. On March 7, Sanders was asked whether Trump knew anything about the payment to Daniels.

But by Thursday afternoon, when Giuliani undertook his second interview with BuzzFeed News in just over 14 hours, it was clear that Trump's new outside lawyer in the Russian Federation investigation had taken on a much larger role - helping to manage Trump's image as well as his legal standing.

Giuliani says: "Cohen didn't even ask". If Cohen never made an unreported contribution, there could be no overt criminal act in the conspiracy - and so no conspiracy at all. "He did his job".

But legal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) said it was asking the Department of Justice and Office of Government Ethics to investigate whether Trump made an illegal false statement by not including the $130,000 payment in his personal financial disclosures.

Trump attorney Rudy Guiliani told reporters as much this afternoon.

City of Toronto spokesperson Wynna Brown also confirmed that the city did not issue a permit in relation to the stunt. Shortly before 10 a.m., Toronto firefighters safely cut the rope holding the vehicle , causing it to hit the ground.

Giuliani has quickly become the dominant figure on the president's reshuffled legal team as Trump stocks his political inner circle with familiar, TV-ready faces.

Giuliani's revelation contradicts what the president said on Air Force One in April. There may be bank fraud. Using campaign funds could have been a violation of federal law.

Sounds like this storm is just getting started!

And five years after that, at the climax of the 2016 presidential campaign, Michael Cohen, Trump's lawyer and fixer, arranged for a shell corporation to pay Daniels $130,000 for her agreement to remain silent about her relationship with the then-presidential candidate. The agreement was used to stop the false and extortionist accusations made by her about an affair, despite already having signed a detailed letter admitting that there was no affair. "It's highly unlikely that Trump reimbursed Cohen without knowing what he was reimbursing him for".

Questions also emerged about why Mr Giuliani, who is representing the president in the Mueller probe, spoke about sensitive security matters during his interview with Fox News, including the suggestion that three American hostages may be released by North Korea.

"Money from the campaign, or campaign contributions, played no role in this transaction".

In reaction to Giuliani's remarks, Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, said Trump evidently participated in a felony and that there must be serious consequences for his conduct.
